Merry Christmas!

Thought I would take a breather before anyone arrives and Mr CB is out surfing.

We are having lunch here and yesterday I slightly freaked out looking around as the place was a TIP but it's all good now. We're having about 10 people, and on the menu:
- antipasto platter, chips and dips
- grilled haloumi
- asparagus and spring onion tart (made yesterday, mostly to blame for the mess, in the fridge ready to be cooked)
- salad of zucchini, peas, mint, fetta and pine nuts
- rocket, cherry tomato and parmesan salad
- slow roasted Greek style lamb, been in the oven since about 7am and is smelling amazing
- Mr CB's oven roasted chips
- torronata with blueberries not raspberries as those babies were $9 a punnet. Also got some Cold Rock ice cream and jelly for the little dude. We were also going to have a big fruit salad but fruit was insanely exxy when I went shopping and I think that might be enough food!

Mr CB made me open my presents last night so this morning was a bit of an anticlimax and I ended up going for a walk. So strange to not be hungover on Christmas day and lucky for me as it is an amazing day out there!

I got a Tom ford lipstick (bless him!) Karen Walker peace sign earrings and a Karen Walker necklace of a love heart with arrows through it. Love!

My baby has arrived

Five beautiful French bulldog puppies born Sunday morning. How on earth are we going to choose one?

Weekend before Christmas

Crazy times.

Friday night was my work Christmas party. After our big awards shindig a few weeks ago we have smaller, department parties and ours was at a Motor Boat club, casino themed, gambling with fake money. I thought this was a shite idea and assumed it was only because we weren't welcome at the actual casino. My work has a history of being 'banned' from quality establishments. I digress.
The shite turned awesome when I totally dominated at Texas hold 'em poker. As in two straights in my first two hands. Totally going to become an online gambling addict.
Dancing to bad pop and drinking cheap sparkles was totally good times and it was good to kick back with peeps I don't get to see that often any more not working in the office full time. I left after the party finished, did not kick on til sunrise like some others who shall remain nameless, because Saturday I was getting my hardcore on.

No Sleep Til Sydney totally ruled. Amazing how my music taste is getting wider as I get older and my attraction to young tattooed boys wearing skinny jeans and Vans with no socks only grows.

Me being hilarious with Keith

Mags declared this her birthday event and after filling our Ribena squeezies at her office and collectively whingeing about out hangovers we were off to get all rowdy. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes kicked the day off in covertastic, matching-shirt-good-times.
Frenzal Rhomb were major disappointment town. Too much unfunny banter and not enough golden hits.
Alkaline Trio were tops, great singalongs.
We only got to see the start of Gwar, 11/10 for costumes, but sadly missed the penis-squirting ending.
Parkway Drive kicked balls. Totally insane live and the most dedicated fans I have ever seen. So much that a kid had his head slashed open, got it stapled, and was back watching before the end of the set. So much so we saw a dude break his leg and was singing as he was taken away in a wheelchair.
Nofx were disappointing and didn't play a single song I knew. Bummer.
The Descendents were everything everyone was telling me they would be and more. Their albums were released mostly before I was born and yet they had more energy than I have had in my lifetime. Just as entertaining were the dudes standing side of stage practically weeping in joy at seeing their idols. Pretty cool to get to see such icons on their first Aussie tour.
The biggest let down of the day was that the Strawberry now closes its kitchen at 10pm. WTF is with that? Sadly that meant we saw some guy get his head belted in at the kebab shop across the road, so home time it was for me. After the hell of catching public transport home with the carols in the Domain peeps I slept like a baby.

Spanish chicken salad nom
Sunday we had a really cruisy day and drove down to Thirroul so Mr CB could check out a surf shop and went to Scarborough pub for lunch. Food so yum. I had a salad to counteract the amount of sugar I had consumed through Gatorade recoveries but managed to steal lots of husband's smashed potatoes.
The smell of beer in the pub was very troubling to me, but I think the fresh air did me some good.

Sickness

This week has been a shocker in the carpet burns household and surrounds. I dare say everyone's immune systems have packed up due to pre-Christmas indulgence. Mr CB and I have had a gross throat infection that has meant interrupted sleep for ages. Today I get a panicked phone call to ask if I can take Olga to the hospital because she has a temp of 42deg. Crazy. She looked like death. And after my night on the couch rolling around with period pain I am not much better:
My look= death. Even my cute new Dino Designs ring can't  brighten me up
I'll pop over and see if she's any better soon. Hopefully the drugs have started to sort her out.

Tonight is my work Christmas party. After our big awards bash a few weeks ago we have pretty low key department Christmas dos. Ours is a casino themed, gamble with fake money night.
I am ignoring the optional dress code since I have not thought about anything but cold fizzy drinks and ice blocks to ease my throat this week. Planning on wearing my Zimmermann tuxedo jumpsuit. Since it's suits for the boys this counts, right?

Have You Met Miss Jones?

I met the owner of this business ages ago through work, so was busting to go to the sale that started today in Alexandria. Such gorgeous stuff, beautiful bone china and so discounted! This was my haul:

The vase in the middle has little butterflies along the top and is for my sis in law for Christmas. The little squirrel and dove votive are gifts for a housewarming I'm going to in Bondi tomorrow. One of the bamboo vases is going to be a gift, one is for me, but I just can't decide which one to keep. Dilemmas!

I also popped into the Andrew & Joen sale at Paddo RSL, not expecting much because their shoes are clearly made for more delicate footsies than my big hoofers. But no need to worry, at $75 for two pairs I managed to rummage enough to find some. The sandals are really comfy and soft and the riding boots actually fit my weird ankle/ foot ratio. I also got a grey leather bag that is a weird size, kinda too big for a handbag but not sure if it's big enough for an overnighter. At $10 I couldn't leave it there! No!

In the mail today I got a postcard! I love postcards! This one is from my lovely friend Tamara who is in Chile. True story: she had booked the trip for the wedding of the girl she stayed with on exchange there years ago, but the wedding was postponed for the bride's nose job! Tam still went anyway, the trooper she is. She didn't climb the volcano in the pic though, so not that much of a trooper.

Blood donor rejection

The blood bank is in town on Friday so I called to make an appointment. Wanted to do it before I get my anniversary tattoo booked in to get another donation.
Sadly I was rejected for having been to Indonesia and I have to wait til the end of January. Spew. Now I know how my pommy friend feels, who can't give blood for fear of mad cow.

Reallllllly want to get tattooo ASAP and don't want to wait. Feel sad that I won't be able to give blood for a long time though.

Bellingen

Ridiculously amazing place. My plan of 'go up there for the weekend and Mr CB can get it out of his system' kind of backfired since I'm now super in love. Only dodgy photos since my rad camera was out of battery. Of course.

 I Love Belly

Sawtell

Promised land

Some thoughts from the weekend:

Hearthfire woodfire sourdough. Hearthfire pumpkin and ricotta pies. Watching the sun go down at the Federal Hotel with a few $4 James Squire Golden Ales.  Bats out at nightfall, what a view they must have. Getting too full off free samosas at the pub to warrant going to the fancois dinner we had planned.
Skatebowl by the river, cute skater boys everywhere. Live Hindu music at the pub mixed with some Johnny Cash covers. Looking at houses where the tenants have lots of underarm hair, chickens and lots of hammocks. Tapas plates. Locals who are super helpful and tell you all sorts of 'secret' places. Promised Land swimming holes. Crystal clear water, even the rocks at the bottom are pretty.

Loving gardening doesn't mean you are getting old

Right, right??

I am loving my garden sick at the moment. Apart from the caterpillars. Your days are numbered.
Can you see the yellow lady beetle? (If that's what they are called?)

Don't they coordinate nicely with the yellow zucchini?

Tomatoes. I can't really talk about them at the moment because they are being eaten by caterpillars. Game on moles.

Thanks you weather!

What a glorious Sydney day. Honestly there is just no comparison to the days we get like this.
Apart from living in Hawaii where they have an ozone layer, this is pretty tops.

This morning I was facebook-browse-stalking when I came across some snaps from an ex-friends holiday in Fiji. It was a timely reminder to always wear sunscreen and a hat, since man she is looking old!

Had my hair done on Thursday, had a lot darker foils put through, especially around my hairline which means extra weeks out of my colour. Love love love the colour but it has mega faded on first wash. I don't think brunetteism is in my near future. It has grown so so much.
When we got back from overseas last year I had a mega chop and it was really short, choppy and couldn't get it behind my ears. Today I have it all up in a high bun. Craziness.

Almost a year of marriage

Can you believe it? I can't. Tuesday I have been married for a year. A year has gone by since that awesome day in Vegas. Crazy.

It took me a while to think of something 'paper' related for Mr CB but I got him tickets for the Lemonheads playing 'It's a Shame About Ray' in full. I think he will be pretty stoked. I will be pretty stoked if he didn't even realise they were playing, which I think he hasn't.

Mummy CB left this morning, it was so lovely to have her staying with us even if the circumstances for her visit were awful. I miss being able to have a coffee with my Mum any time. We sure did our best to make up for lost time though, I think Mario was sick of the sight of us!

Cudo, horses and the Greece

Have you checked out Cudo yet? I know it's a pain in the num to have to sign up to but the deals are amazing! In the last week or so I have bought vouchers for:
  • a 5 course banquet for two including a bottle of wine from Tokonoma for $99 (!!!)
  • 12 gourmet cupcakes from Ghermez at Bondi for $12, and today
  • a $4 take home box from Cold Rock
yes, this is encouraging unnecessary purchasing, but in the best possible way.

Tomorrow is horses day. Meeting in the morning then off to the pub for a 'work' lunch. Tough life. If only I wasn't chairing a day full of meetings on Wednesday I would take full advantage. Oh, maturity.
My money will probably be on Descarado. Betting on So You Think would be boring, right?

My leave for the Greece (as Billy is calling it) was approved today. Party! Slightly longer than I actually have in AL and slightly earlier than I initially told my boss I was leaving but approved nonetheless.
Will book tomorrow after Mr CB confirms his leave, likely with Singapore who are reasonably priced and have good connections. Note to Etihad: a 9 hour wait in Abu Dabhi from midnight- 9am is not desirable!

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Umm how do travel agents stay in business?

Went to see Olga's agent this morning who has been holding her flights. Well, 8 return trips for 4 people. No wonder no flights were 'available' when this is what they do.
Singapore had nothing available, so she quoted us to fly into Athens and out of London $2399 with Thai. Nothing cheaper on Etihad or Emirates.

Got home, went straight on the internet and found flights with Singapore for slightly cheaper, but the EXACT SAME flights with Thai for $2153 each. Plus a $18 booking fee. Sheesh. Wonder how I'll book?

Midweek party times in the CB household

There was a wine waiting for me when I got to the top of the stairs yesterday. Needless to say it was not the last. Sore head today.

To accompany the wine, Mr CB made ocean trout. I am not a huge seafood lover and always feel ungrateful and as though it is wasted on me. But he loves it. And it was super healthy. Sacrifices.

Yesterday I had a bit of time to kill between appointments. By a bit I mean 4 hours.  I also had to go from West Ryde to Crows Nest, so did some looksying along the way and picked up this baby at Vinnies for $5. Isn't he pretty? He's definitely a boy. Am consumed thinking of what colour to paint him. And what to name him.

New horsey

Have you seen Grover do the Old Spice man?
'I'm on a horse'
'Moo'
'Cow'

Tuesday ramblings

I am waiting for my pastizzis to cool down, on my mind:

  • what a lazy dinner. But so yum
  • cross your fingers and toes people, my netty grand final is tonight. Ez has a dodgy ankle, but is taking one for the team and strapping, we need the players!
  • am in a conundrum..... Spongebob or Sookie for Halloween? Spongebob would be so fun, maybe not to make, but the 5yo host of the party I am going to will die (Rachel Zoe style, not literally). Sookie means Mr CB can go as Bill (alas, he is more a Bill than an Eric or an Alcide) but I will kinda feel boring in shorts and a tshirt, won't I?
  • I am really sore from yoga last night. Poor core doesn't know what hit it
  • it's October. Where is the sun?
Pastizzis are ready!

Possums! Not cute!

This is the ratbag that is responsible for herb destruction:
Not cute!

I have laughed off Mr CB's obsessive possum checking. Rolled my eyes every time he jumped off the lounge to turn on the outside lights after hearing a 'noise.' But enough's enough. It's war people!

Last night this critter was happily munching away on my kale with me sitting not 2m away. Oblivious. Even when I stood at the big glass doors he just looked at me. He soon scooted off quick smart when Mr CB started banging the broom and the mop (that he had just so happened to have left right at the laundry door) together and making almighty sorts of noise levels.

You have been warned, possum. Stay away from my herbs!

At the risk of sounding all Jamie Durie

I love my 'Outdoor Room.' Since when did balconies, backyards etc become 'rooms?' Whatevs, our terrace is the most used place in our home. The minute we stepped out there during the open inspection (well actually, probably when we saw the photo online if truth be told) the place was sold. The privacy, quietness, ocean breeze... I can kinda understand why the local possums use it as their evening playhouse.

Today is such an amazing Sydney day I might even pop out and but a magazine about rooms. Outside.

Phew

Massive sigh of motherfucking relief. The money is back in my account.
Called the bank yesterday to see what was going on, they are meant to notify within 21 days. Fail. Turns out they were a month behind and had not even looked at my claim. Not even the times I had called up to see if they were waiting on anything from me.
I can't even be angry at the moment, such a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Up side to a chaotic week. Deep breath.

PS Sushi Suma tonight. Could not be more excited to see the gals and demolish a kaiso salad.

PPS How amazing is the Laneway lineup? Though I already knew, am super stoked for Magski how awesome the reaction has been to it. Can't wait.

Animal Farm

I just watched this story on ABC about Jan Cameron, the founder of Kathmandu and her life as an animal activist since selling the business in 2006 for $280m. I know.
I cannot handle seeing animals being treated badly and this was disturbing but also very heartwarming.

I am a pretend vegetarian. Ie, I am very, very selective about the meat I eat but I cannot call myself a vego. I was a full on vego for a couple of years in my teens, but it really didn't agree with me and I was miserable. This was before the days of organics, free range etc, and although I felt a constant guilt at my meat- eating, I knew I was better off eating it than not. These days I don't eat a lot of meats- veal and pork are big no nos for me.

Anyways, I am now going to be thinking of living on a farm (but not in Tas, way too cold for big woozy me) and being followed around by pigs, piglets, little horses and big dogs. Bless.

On the weekend we did lots of holiday discussions. Greece/ Turkey (+extras) here we come in 2011. Mr CBB is adamant we are not booking a trip to so far as the end of the street if we don't get the money back from my CC, but I am of the view that it will happen. It seemed like such a pipe dream when we started talking about it, but earlybirds to Euro have to be booked by the 30th of October, so must get onto it, ASAP.

Big Day Out or In?

What number can be before a '0' before you are too old for the BDO? I have ranted/ threatened for years that this will be my last year... but still gone. I'm not overly stoked on the lineup but will probs go this year because it's Olga's bday. Lucky, imagine being born on Australia Day. The nation is obligated to celebrate!

I made a banana bread last night (how did 3 bunches of ripe bananas get to my kitchen) and cannot. stop. eating. it. Best ever. Probably stops being healthy after the 3rd or 4th slice, right?

Shh... little purchases

I know I know I know. Meant to be in a post-holiday/ preh-holiday savings spree but I couldn't resist these bargains at 50% off from Citybeach. Godammit Vogue forum and your bargain- directing ways!

But they were super cheap and I was in desperate need of a new bikini and it is super cute. And shipping shared is shipping halved, right?

Back to savings exile I go.

Does anyone care about the outcome of this game?

I don't. Yes I am half watching it. No I do not care.
Why does NSW get Jess Mauboy miming when VIC gets Lionel Ritchie?

I do not care if the Roosters win but I would like St George to lose, mainly because of idiot Gasnier. It should be like netball where if you aren't registered at the start of the season you can't play in the finals. So there.

The Nuns Breakfast
In a very risky departure from the norm, we didn't have breakfast at Ham this morning. I know. Shock.
The rain sent us indoors, back to a long forgotten former regular. The Nuns Pool, you are back baby!

Corn fritters, grilled tomato, sauteed mushrooms, avo, sour cream and spinach. Mr CB had salmon instead of mushies. Mine was better.

Heading to the Warren View for some footy action this afternoon. Rain= the inner west to me lately. I hope to ignore all forms of sport this weekend, making me the real winner.

PS don't forget to watch the original Wall St tonight. Exciting life times! I want to get a dog and call it Gordon Gekko.

Babushkas in my ears

Today was lovely. I went up to Newport for a meeting with one of my biggest customers. She was leaving, now she's not. The Northern Beaches were just so nice in this weird arse weather we are having. No one there. Loved it.

Then a $6 club lunch with my friend Lisa and her ratbag/ adorable girls. I got a belated birthday present of wine (yippee) and some cute as pairs of earrings from her new business. I am 99% sure they are meant for kids but is that going to stop me putting babushkas or penguins in my ears? Hell no!
Babushkas!

Home cooked Greek dinner tonight at Olga's. Awesome not just for her cooking skillz, but also for the 100m stumble home around the corner.

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Oh, Gordon Gekko

Very much enjoyed Wall St 2 and my first trip to the movies in forever. My local cinema had 8 people in total seeing the flick, and 1 in total working. How do such establishments stay in business?
Anyway, it's a bit Oliver Stone- montagey OTT in places, really predictable and I totally do not understand Carey Mulligan's 'it' girl status, but somehow I still really liked it.

Ah, memories of being in the Japan countryside and reading a 3 day old English newspaper touting the end of the world as we know it. And not being able to access internet/ phones to see exactly how much money we had bled in the stockmarket crash. Which in hindsight was probably the best place to be.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Spin baby!

Back to the gym this morning. Like every other desperado freaking out at the 28deg days I suppose. When did the gym get so packed?
After my dreadful hangover Friday-Saturday-Sunday I am off the booze for a while. Stop rolling your eyes. I refuse to feel 30. Netball tonight, will hopefully give my knee a bit of a run and see how it holds up. Old lady?

Sadly I will not be having the anticipated hot date with Ms C. Love I have been dreaming of in January. I still have my fingers crossed as my insider is never usually wrong about these things. Will this be the first year I go through with my threats of not going to the BDO? Gasp! Is 15 too many?

Someone once told me when you turn 30 you don't get hangovers any more

They lied. And when I meet up with her in a pub tomorrow to watch bogans and pretty boys clash, I shall make this very clear to her.

Despite drinking my own body weight in Bintang daily last week and waking up fresh as a (sweaty) daisy, last night we went to the premier of a surfing flick made by a friend of Mr CB's and several drinkies were had. This morning I felt like death, vommed for hours and had to cancel a meeting I had in Newport. Undeserved hangovers are the worst. Mr CB reckons it's stress and that I needed to let a bit loose.

With the opening of Selfridge's insane new shoe department and the strong Aussie dollar, are you thinking what I'm thinking? Hmm... shame my account has almost been drained, no shopping trips for me. In better financial news, I did receive a cheque in the mail for $1.68 from Citibank for an account I closed, oh, I don'y know, 6 months ago? Clearly all financial worries have come to an end.

Mr CB, ie the best husband in the world, is currently purchasing me a kebab. Despite the fact that he worked his little bottom off today and I only left the couch to get another Zooper Dooper. Bless him.

Back from Bali

Tao Beach House, Legian
Had an amazing time and didn't do much of the 'nothing' I had planned. Had my card swiped and $12,000 in charges put on it, but fingers crossed it all comes back.

Baby white tigers, elephants and organutans, oh my. Best day of my life at the Safari Park.

Even have a semi tan. Well, for me.

It's not very nice to no longer be in weather less than 35 degrees, wearing clothes other than bikinis and sundresses, and not drinking before midday. Sigh.

Trackpads suck

My apologies, oh blog, for my absence. The mousepad-fingerthingy on my Mac decided to spaz out and not work, as though there were aliens/ ghosts in the computer clicking randomly on things. Strangely it is working perfectly now. Hmm.

I promise to do a proper update soon.

For now, I am tuned to ABC where J-Gill is about to hold a press conference. Will we have someone running the show shortly? I am almost passed caring about who does it, am rather sick of hearing them all carry on.

I will leave you with this gem from What Courtney Wore Today (ie the best website of all time):
“I got an earful about how pretentious Hermes scarves are. F that! Love them!”

Poor Courtney + new jumpsuit

My dear friend Courtney Love, she of my biggest teenage girl-crush, is poor. She has spent most of her money and is estranged from her daughter. This has not stopped her from being photographed in Paris with a Birkin. Bless.

And to think I nearly vommed when I bought this Zimmermann jumpsuit yesterday. I have so much to learn.

I will need to hit the spray tanning booth hard, as it shows a lot of skin that hasn't seen the light of day in a long time. But it was so cute, and with three times to wear it to already it has a brilliant cost per wear. In theory. Plus one of those times is my birthday, so it's practically free!

Weekend with no leader

I tried really hard not to get worked up about the election, truly. I didn't even want to watch the coverage. I banned Mr CB from watching also, as he is a foreigner, not entitled to vote, and therefore not entitled to whinge. That all went out the window at about 6pm when I couldn't take my eyes from Melissa Doyle's flesh coloured top as a start and went downhill from there. Cannot believe the result. Well I can, but still riveting. 613,000 informal votes is a disgrace.
Am already sick of hearing the Greens and their carry on. I truly wonder how many people who voted for them know of a policy of theirs other than support for gay marriage, and how many of those realise their vote more than likely went to Labour who don't support it?
Am loving Rob Oakeshot sick, but would really, really like Joe Katter to shut the heck up already.

Anyway, in lighter news, my weekend (when not screaming at the TV) looked like this:

We had the Beast for a sleep over on Friday night because parents of the Beast were off to Melbourne for the weekend. A 5:30am wake up call on Saturday with a scream in my face and another of the many body blows I received through the night. How can a 5yo take up so much room?
An early morning ride at Sydney Park- that kid's track is awesome. The Beast even obeyed traffic rules. I know. Brunch at Digikaf where the girls were more than entertained by his antics. The quesadillas are becoming pretty average, may have to move onto something else. Dev.
The beast
There was a lot of cooking in the CB household on Sunday. Mr CB's favourite, Greek rice pudding was made in bulk. Gross. Cannot believe how much of this stuff he can put away.
Rice pudding, ick
Babaganoush in the making
Berry Friands

In other news I can't get into the hairdressers until NEXT WEDNESDAY. Clearly nothing good can come from this week.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Sunshine, lolly pops

How amazing is the Sydney weather today? 24 degrees when I got into my car this afternoon! Amazerling.

My boss bought me a pink camera for work. Everyone thinks this is hilarious. I am not amused. I am not a fan of pink.

In medical news:

  • My knee doesn't need an operation, yippee! Just a lot of physio. Is it wrong to think the op would have been a quick fix and I'm dreading constant physio?
  • Had my shots for Bali yesterday afternoon, feel so queasy and my arm is sore. Boohoo.

Metallica and Cauliflower Cheese

I need to cancel my ebay account. Or change my password. My CB has become obsessed with purchasing 90s band tshirts to add to his collection. Shit's out of control and I'm kinda over going to the post office! In the past few weeks he's bought Nirvana (Incesticide), Smashing Pumpkins, Gunners (for me, bless) and today not one, but TWO Metallica tshirts arrived. I don't deny I like them (well I do to Mr CB), but when is enough enough?

After DYING at the cauliflower cheese at Little Creatures on the weekend I made it tonight. Where has it been all my life? Well, my life since I started cooking. My mum used to make it all the time and I never thought anything of it. So cheap, so easy. Retrotastic. Perhaps not so healthy, but it's a vegetable, right?
Nom

Thinking about my weekend in Malbun, which incidentally already feels like a lifetime ago, I realised it's the first time I have been down there without a filthy hangover. There was the time when I was ill on the national icon that is Ramsay St, the time when I had to run out of a shop on Brunswick St (and not just because they were playing 'Jessie's Girl') and then there was the time with Axl Rose...
I have seen the city in a new, non-ill light. So I didn't spend any time in cool little bars this time, but it's amazing what you can achieve in the day when you are not green.

A weekend in Malbun

(Melbourne)
I love how everyone says their 'e's like George from Masterchef. In a genius segue, George was one of the main reasons we hit Melbourne town, to visit Hellenic Republic.
I'm not going to lie to you about how all kinds of awesome his restaurant is, but I am kinda spoilt in the Greek food way, with access to possibly the most ridiculously good food (Greek and otherwise) from the amazing Frida. Sadly she is in Greece at the moment and my neighbours and I feverishly await her return.

I digress.

If you don't have access to fab Greek food on tap then Hellenic Republic may just blow your mind. The orange crema with pistachio praline dessert with chocolate  kourambedes was a mega highlight, it was on the specials list so we were very glad we ordered it, and not the loukamedes we were planning on demolishing.
Nom

The Tim Burton exhibit was well worth the trip. My heart did a little flip walking down the stairs and seeing the Edward Scissorhands costume as the first display. Such an imagination, and certainly not your average California- raised boy. The main thing I took away from the day was that Johnny Depp is so tiny. Fantasy shattered.

We scored super comfy lounge chairs at Little Creatures Dining Hall for a late lunch on Saturday (not all that long after finishing a late breakfast) and felt compelled to make the most of them. Cauliflower bake and lamb parcels were moreish,  but room had to be saved to try every single one of the Little Creatures beers on tap. Plus Pipsqueak Cider! The limited run Brown Ale was a bit average, but I won't hold that against them.

Lost of eating, laneway wandering, pub crawling for pots, vintage shopping and laziness made up the rest of the weekend.

My lunch my lunch my lunch

This was my lunch today. Note the sunshine. It was out for about, oh, 20 seconds today before the clouds and the rain came back. Lucky for me I had two meetings cancelled so I worked from home and got to really enjoy those 20 seconds.
I have not eaten pasta in a long time. Well, for me. The call of the carb was just too strong today!

Cupcakes from Lizzy B's birthday. Jules made them, isn't she cute? They didn't look so hot the next day when I saw her when I was at the park with Billy and they had been in her car all night.

Simon Day + Bonds

Drool.
He's still got it.

Love this ad for the new Bonds bra. I'm probably a bit over their target age for the actual bra, but the second I heard this ad I ran to the TV just in time to see Simon's beautiful face. Big Day Out 2002. Homebake 1998. Good times.

Goings away

Let's not discuss this God-awful Sydney weather and talk about my upcoming weekend in Melbourne instead. Plans:

  • do the sneaky 'work from home' on Friday, fly down in the morning.
  • check into the Como (la la) and collect the duck as instructed by an experienced Como- goer
  • spend Friday at Tim Burton exhibition
  • Friday night dinner at Hellenic Republic. No doubt George will be there and I will tell him all about my Greek rice pudding that is apparently better than Frida's (aka the best Greek cook in the universe) and we will become great friends
  • Saturday, after digesting food, swan around shopping and at some stage go to Little Creatures Dining Hall where all of Mr CB's beer dreams will come true
  • Fill whatever available tummy space we have left with a late breakie and fly home Sunday
Good times! Be gone Sydney cold and rain! I expect Melbourne to be cold and miserable weather wise, this is acceptable.

Mind you, the weekend brought temperature rises of about 400 degrees, and it seemed every man and his dog descended on my suburb in far too little clothing in shock. So this rain has some benefits.

Week in pictures

Can you believe it's August already? Christmas will be here before we know it.
My first week in August has looked like this:

Some little leftover carpet burns from my tumble down the stairs last week
Love love love getting mail that doesn't require payment of a bill or filling in of some form
  • STYD mag
  • Tarina Tarantino skull earrings and Stella McCartney sunnies from ebay
  • More high quality viewing in the form of Gossip Girl from Quickflix. Seriously the best service ever for lazites like me
Florence and the Machine at the Enmore on Friday.
Amazing. I was in shock at the crowd (groups of grown, non-gay men singing every word to every song etc) and still in shock at her voice. I enjoyed her more last tour, she seems to have lost a bit of her innocence that contrasts so strongly with THAT voice, but she is still head and shoulders above (geddit?) any act I have seen in a long time.

My boots waiting impatiently for Florence to take the stage

. I had lost interest in Ernest Ellis by then. Are they are Christian band? Surely they wouldn't be covering the Doors if they were?

Why Carpet Burns?

Time for a new blogging start. I have a livejournal that I have had for years and years, but stopped using it last year when I went on a big holiday. Since then a fair bit has changed. I look back at those posts and it's like I'm reading the ranting of a different person. The whole point of a blog is probably to look back and cringe, but it feels like it's time for a different type of cringing.

Carpet Burns sounds like my name. It was once called out across the office and someone thought I was being called. The same girl also once confused 'garlic burps' as my name, but we'll leave that alone.
I also get a lot of them (carpet burns, not garlic burps)/
